of the Diploma colleges FH Nordhessen

Since April 1st 2008, in-service distance university courses for Diploma Occupational Therapists and Diploma Physiotherapists have been offered at the study center Kaiserslautern in cooperation with Diploma college of higher education Nordhessen for qualified occupational therapists and qualified physiotherapists with A-level or advanced technical college entrance qualification. Alternatively, under special circumstances, qualified employed people without advanced secondary school entrance qualification can be accepted (see admission procedure).
Medical-technically orientated subject matters acquired at a vocational school, qualify to perform the profession. As it is becoming more and more important for the global market, colleges of higher education studies are to impart knowledge about techniques with a scientific approach as well as economical and social knowledge to improve competences in leadership, communication, and action abilities. Furthermore, after earning an academic title, higher social prestige is gained and the possibility of an academic career at a university (after acquiring a diploma, the possibility to obtain a PhD rises).
Occupational therapists and physiotherapists with advanced technical college graduation teach in health care, are self-employed as occupational or physiotherapists, are managers in health constitutions as well as academic research (method development and evaluation) and journalism.
The studies take 4 semesters, they are in-service. During this period the student is employed. This is to ensure, that the acquired knowledge can be used immediately.
The course members are enrolled as students of the College of Higher Education where they
are provided with study material. The specialist lecturers are appointed by the studies center Prof.
König and Leiser schools management and accepted by the college of higher education Nordhessen. The distance student is supervised by the studies center Kaiserslautern by specially edited material, consultation, correcting the send-in tasks or exams. In addition, every other Saturday there is an event that requires attendance. This is to ensure, that the topics have been understood and the students are prepared for the oncoming exams as well as the diploma theses.
Preparation for the diploma thesis follows the rules given by he School of Higher Education Nordhesssen and relate to the regulations of the “Hessische High School Legislation” as well as the licensing agreement issued by Rhineland Palatinate.
After finishing the requested diploma exam and the degree dissertation, the student aquires the academic title of “Diplom Ergotherapeut/in (FH)” or “Dipl. Physiotherapist (FH)”. The School of Higher Education Nordhessen issues the reports amended by the permission to administer the academic title acquired with the exam.
